Tell us about the first time you picked up a hula hoop:

A little over 3 years ago a good sistar of mine was borrowing some hula hoops from a friend and she excitedly showed me a few moves she had learned. Then we spent the rest of the day spinning and laughing. I had no notion of flow-arts or the hoop community but I thought it was a fun way to work-out and I got hooked! She let me take one of them home with me for a few days and within that time I had ordered my first hoop for myself!

What inspired you to be a part of Americas Next Top Hooper?

I was inspired to be apart of America’s Next Top Hooper because it seemed like a fun challenge with a lot of different aspects. I liked the whole idea of having a mentor, the weekly elimination and the fact that 6 people would win a hoop no matter what plus there would be a final prize is very generous! The whole challenge seemed like it would be very friendly and inviting yet still incorporate the exciting factor of competition!

Tell us about the first time you picked up a hula hoop:

From the moment I decided to finally order my first hula hoop, I was SO excited..so excited in fact that I couldn’t even wait for it to arrive. I cut open a super cheap walmart hoop I had in my parents garage and added bird seed to it so that it was heavier and more usable for me. I first learned isolations, and the moment I realized I had learned them was so monumental for me. That feeling I got of personal accomplishment and pure happiness was insane! The thing is, that feeling hasn’t gone away. It happens every single time I pick up a hoop (except on “bad flow days” which we all have). I couldn’t imagine a life without my circles, it really has become a part of who I am!

What inspired you to be a part of Americas Next Top Hooper?

I was inspired to join ANTH not because I wanted the prizes, but because I’m constantly trying to grow. I’ve been in competitive sports since I could walk, and I’ve made so many friends and learned SO many life lessons through each team I was on. Joining ANTH was not to be “better” than the other competitors, it was to see how far myself as a flow artist could make it, to meet and connect with other artists, and to push myself! I’ve always told myself I’d never hoop in random public places because I’m so self-conscious, but now I can say that I’ve hooped in a forest with full tiger body paint, and in a field while embodying the element of air! It was super fun, and thank you to The Spinsterz for having me!!!

Tell us about the first time you picked up a hula hoop:

The first hoop I ever tried I ordered online. It was HUGE. 1” tubing, 38” diameter hoop. This thing was heavy! The first trick I tried to learn was the vortex. I hit myself over and over and over again in the face because my timing was soooo off. I felt so defeated at times. Once I got it, I recorded an entire video of myself doing nothing but the vortex (back when Instagram was only 15 second videos )

What inspired you to be a part of Americas Next Top Hooper?

I was inspired to do the ANTH challenge because the Spinsterz has been one of my all time favorite hoop companies. I’ve gotten some of my favorite hoops from the Spinsterz. I hope to win so I can not only be an ambassador for this company but also influence hoopers everywhere to challenge themselves and go for it!

Tell us about the first time you picked up a hula hoop:

The first time I picked up a hoop was at a party I threw! @madly_hatting had given me her on-body hoop to learn with and taught me the escalator and vortex and from then on I was in love. I loved the feeling of completing a trick and the feeling of a hoop on my body. I was pretty stagnant with the same couple tricks for 2 years until I met @guhrace_xoxo ! Hooping with her felt like the first time I picked up a hoop! She and I have been learning together since we met and I think we have grown tremendously together. I have to mention these two beautiful ladies because they have everything to do with me hooping and for welcoming me into such a beautiful community!

What inspired you to be a part of Americas Next Top Hooper?

I had entered ANTH for the simple reason of if you don’t try, you’ll never succeed ! I have always loved their hoops and how intertwined they are with the community! I never thought I would make it into top 6 and I am so grateful for the opportunity!! Thank you so much @thespinsterz and @flow_ho for supporting me.
