Did you know that it is safe to hoop during pregnancy? It is safe and healthy for those that don’t have a high risk pregnancy. It is a great way to get ready for labor! I decided to interview three lovely ladies that have experienced hooping during pregnancy. This article is intended to share experiences and knowledge about being a pregnant hooper. Thank you to the “hoop mamas” that allowed me to interview them!
Ive been hooping for 3 glorious years!
I am currently 15 weeks pregnant
There have been a little bit of both. The first upset in my journey was turning down a lot of performance opportunities due to the environments and unknowns that I’m about to face. My main challenge though has been my energy level has decreased immensely. All I want to do is nap, and when I do find the energy to pick up my hoop, I find myself tiring much faster than usual. The benefits to hooping while pregnant is to keep my hips constantly in motion. The swaying of the hips will help during labor Also, its important that you get regular exercise during pregnancy. I can’t run or lift weights so hooping is a great way to get my heart pumping without pain.
The only thing that has been unexpected was the energy slump. My 1st trimester was really difficult, battling a healthy diet with constant fatigue. This took away a lot of my desires to hoop and instead to focus on my well being. I’m starting to see my energy levels increase now that I’m in 2nd trimester but now my belly is going to start to grow, so I’m sure there are new challenges ahead!
My biggest piece of advice to hoopers that get pregnant is understand this is not the end of your hooping journey, but only the beginning of a beautiful and special way to experiment with new movements as your body changes. You are only pregnant for 9 months and the hoop community will always be there for you for support, encouragement and appreciation. Keep in mind that you are growing the next generation of hoopers. You can continue to enjoy the benefits of hooping and the benefits of pregnancy!

Hooping while pregnant is a challenge in itself. You definitely get tired a lot easier. But one benefit was people are really impressed that you can still wiggle like that while pregnant.
Nothing unusual or unexpected happened to me while pregnant hooping.
Don’t over do it. If you get tired..rest! Also..drink more water than you usually would while hooping, you have to not only keep yourself hydrated.. But also that little baby. Stay in the shade, you definitely don’t want to over heat. But above all..have fun with it. Don’t slow down just because you’re having a baby.
I’ve been hooping since two years ago and I totally fell in love with this sport! Its so much fun!
I’m currently 8 months pregnant and the due date is July 12th. Its a boy (a hula hooper of course).
I think hooping and being pregnant is no problem! Its good for your hips and its good for your baby! On body play is the only thing that I could do before I was pregnant. New things to learn are really exhausting but off body, you can play everything. I think to be pregnant and hooping bring your tricks to another level!
No, if it feels good. Then, I think everything is okay because you’re only pregnant and not ill.
