How to Unpack and Set Up Your Hula Hoop

Thank you for buying your hula hoop from The Spinsterz! This guide shows you how to unpack and set up your new hoop so you can start hooping right away. Please take a moment to read through it so you get the most out of your hoop and your shopping experience with us.

Each type of hoop is packaged a little differently. Whether you ordered a polypro hoop or a weighted BodyJoy hoop, find your hoop type below and follow the steps for it.

How to Set Up a Multi-Section Travel Hoop

Multi-section travel hoops are the easiest to set up:

  1. Unwrap the hoop.
  2. Remove anything that secured it during shipping, like rubber bands or plastic wrap.
  3. Click the sections together.

That's it — go start hooping!

How to Connect a Beginner or Fitness Multi-Section Travel Hoop

To connect the correct sections of your beginner or fitness hoop, follow the hoop's taping pattern and make sure the pattern continues across each joint. If the pattern is broken and the tape doesn't line up, you've got the wrong ends together — swap them and try again.

How to Set Up a Weighted BodyJoy Hoop

Weighted BodyJoy hoops are sectional, so they set up just like a multi-section travel hoop:

  1. Unwrap the hoop.
  2. Remove anything that secured it during shipping, like rubber bands or plastic wrap.
  3. Snap the sections together.

That's it — your weighted hoop is ready for your workout!

How to Unpack a Hula Hoop That Is Coiled Into Itself

  1. Remove all plastic wrap and tape holding the hoop together.
  2. Put the hoop on the floor and very gently push down on the hoop at the connection point to release some pressure.
  3. Pull the hoop apart. Careful: your hoop is under tension, and an end may go flying out at you!
  4. Lay the hoop flat on the floor and let it naturally unwind for at least 12 hours — 24 hours is preferable.
  5. Once your hoop has had a chance to naturally unwind itself, insert the small end into the big end until you hear the snap button go "click."
  6. Go hoop!

How to Unpack a Hula Hoop That Is NOT Coiled Into Itself

The steps are nearly identical to the coiled hoop above, except your hoop is not connected into itself and there's a bit more packing wrap to undo.

  1. Remove all plastic wrap and tape holding the hoop together.
  2. Let the hoop sit for at least 12 hours — 24 hours is preferable.
  3. Once your hoop has had a chance to naturally unwind itself, insert the small end into the big end until you hear the snap button go "click."
  4. Go hoop!

Handmade to Order by Our Hoop Elf Team

While you wait for your hoop to relax back into a circle, here's one more important thing to know.

Every Spinsterz hoop is handcrafted and made to order for you by our Hoop Elf Team — Jason and Wingo — with the highest level of detail and dedication. Because each hoop is custom made, we encourage you to choose your size, diameter, and color carefully. Not sure which size is right? See our hula hoop size guide.

Hula Hoop Care Tips: How to Keep Your Hoop Round

  • Store it hanging or flat. Hang your hoop on a hook or lay it flat so it keeps its round shape.
  • Keep it out of the heat. Don't leave your hoop in a hot car or direct sun for long periods — heat can warp the tubing.
  • Don't squeeze it into tight spaces. Avoid wedging it behind furniture or stacking heavy items on it.
  • If it goes oval, let it rest. Lay it flat on the floor for at least 12 hours — 24 hours is preferable — so it can relax back into a circle.

Hula Hoop Setup FAQ

Why is my hula hoop oval or bent when it arrives?

That's normal. Your hoop was packed tight for shipping, so it needs time to naturally unwind back into a circle. Lay it flat on the floor and let it rest before you connect the ends.

How long should my hoop rest before I use it?

At least 12 hours — 24 hours is preferable. This applies whether your hoop arrived coiled into itself or not.

How do I connect my travel hoop sections correctly?

The taping pattern should continue unbroken across each joint. If the tape doesn't match up, you have the wrong ends together.
